Extend 2009.2.2 Update Correction Release Notes

On Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 6:00 pm, Extend is moving to a new SQL Server Cluster and enabling a handful of necessary corrections.

What does this mean for you? Well, with the server move the admin side of Extend will be unavailable for about an hour, but the presentation side will still run. This means visitors to your site will notice no difference. The corrections will be minor, but help to improve the overall Extend experience.

Corrections

Extend 2009.2.1 Release Notes

Highlights

The Extend 2009.2.1 release is kind of a big deal for us. We've made three enhancements, and we hope you find them as helpful as we do.

Podcasts

With this release, we changed the way podcast files are generated. Podcast files now generate in the Media Manager. Also, any podcast files you upload to the streaming server are automatically added to your Web site.

Create Podcast

Photo Albums

Photo albums have been changed to display on a separate page, so that you can link to specific albums.

If you click an image in a photo album, a larger version of the image displays on the same page.

Image Classes

We have relaxed the size restrictions for images you upload to the Media Manager.

Class Size
Small 1 to 100 pixels
Medium 101 to 300 pixels
Large 301 to 600 pixels
Custom More than 601 pixels

Enhancements

Media Manager

Finally finished the new CSS for your Web site? Tinkered with some JavaScript and want to see how it affects your Web site? Administrator breathing down your neck to have the organization's icon display in the URL bar? Extend has you covered with the ability to upload JavaScript, CSS, and Favicon files to the Media Manager.

New File Formats

HTML Editor

The HTML Editor has been upgraded.

Behind the Scenes

With most releases there are several technical enhancements made to improve the overall user experience. These enhancements do not affect the user directly, but do improve Extend's usability.

Security

Prevented robots from crawling the Web site too aggressively.

Added a security feature to prevent bad bots from crawling the Web site. Bad bots ignore the rules established in security and  harvest e-mail addresses for spamming purposes.

Speed

Implemented a caching system for media and static files. This includes css, javascript, and image files. Caching these files helps improve the speed of the Web site.

Enabled HTTP compression to improve load times on the Admin and Presentation sides of the Web site.

Corrections
